Best 1440p Monitors in 2020

Even though the majority of gamers nowadays still game on 1080p monitors, there is no denying that we’re moving up, and 1440p is slowly becoming the new standard. That being said picking one of the best 1440p monitors isn’t as simple as it seems. There are far too many options for you to choose from. From budget models to some really premium picks that will make you reconsider whether or not you need a new monitor – there is something for everyone.

With that in mind, below we’ve reviewed some of the best 1440p monitors out there. We made sure to include something for everyone – gamers, creatives, and everyday users alike. Let’s take a look at a few things you need to be careful with when buying and dive into the monitors themselves.

Top 3

Things to look out for with the best 1440p monitors

The first thing you want to be careful with when you’re shopping for a new monitor is the size of the monitor itself. Now, this does depend on what distance you’re looking at the monitor from. But many people would suggest that 27” is the sweet spot for a 1440p monitor. That being said, if you want something a bit larger, 30 or 32 inches isn’t out of the question either. You’ll be missing out on a bit of sharpness, though.

Next, the refresh rate does greatly depend on what you’ll be using your monitor for, but if it’s for gaming, 60Hz just won’t cut it. You want a refresh rate that’s as high as possible – 144Hz or 165Hz is great. You could even push it to 240Hz with some panels, but you’ll probably be hard-pressed to find the difference between 144Hz and 240Hz. Not that it isn’t there, but it’s a lot less obvious than going from 60Hz to 144Hz.

Last but not least, while color accuracy will be key to people who do creative work, it’s also a good idea to have a somewhat accurate panel for day-to-day use. How important it is to you is a personal thing, but try to avoid panels that have bad colors and viewing angles, such as TN panels for example. An of course, if you don’t explicitly need accurate colors, don’t overpay for them.

  • NVIDIA G SYNC technology removes stutter and screen tearing for the smoothest gaming experience with NVIDIA G SYNC Processor

ASUS has some really expensive monitors, especially as part of their Republic of Gamers series. The ROG Swift PG279Q is a great choice as far as the best 1440p monitors go. This is especially true if you don’t want to compromise in any way.

The panel is a 165Hz IPS panel that supports G-Sync. As far as gaming goes, this is top-notch, because you get an incredibly smooth experience. It also has an excellent color reproduction and phenomenal viewing angles, making this an excellent choice for everyday usage, too.

On the outside, you get very slim bezels that make the entire experience a bit more immersive. There is also as a host of ports, including USB 3.0. The stand is one of the most adjustable stands we’ve seen, and allows you to adjust height, tilt, swivel, and even rotate the monitor to 90 degrees in portrait mode. It’s a great choice.

It’s no surprise LG’s 27GL850-B is selling very well – at a reasonable price, it gets you a great panel, excellent stand, and an overall lovely experience regardless of what you use the monitor for.

On the outside, the bezels are remarkably slim – this isn’t something we’re used to seeing with the best 1440p monitors, and it really helps make everything a bit more immersive. The stand is pretty compact, and it won’t take up a lot of desk space, which is nice if you’re limited with room. It does adjust in terms of height, though, so you can set it up just how you want it without a monitor arm.

The panel is just brilliant. It’s LG’s Nano IPS panel with a 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time, and it performs admirably in games. Add to this 98% DCI-P3 coverage, and this is a really good monitor overall.

  • Curved gaming Display (1800R) – the best gameplay immersion
  • 144hz refresh rate;178° wide view angle
  • 1ms response time helps eliminate screen tearing and choppy frame rates

MSI’s budget monitors have pretty consistently been an excellent choice for people who want a good resolution and high refresh rate, but don’t want to spend money on things they won’t use like RGB lights, for example. The MAG27CQ is one of those monitors and is an excellent choice for the best 1440p monitors.

First, the panel – you’ve got a 1800R curved 27” panel, with a 144Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time. Yes, it’s a VA panel rather than an IPS one, but at this price, some compromises just had to be made. It’s still a pretty good panel, though.

On the outside, you get pretty slim bezels and a stand you can adjust in terms of height. Not something you’d usually expect on a budget, but a great addition nonetheless. Oh, and MSI has opted for a joystick at the back for the monitor menu, which is much easier than complex buttons, honestly.

Acer’s Predator X35 is, no way around it, an extremely expensive monitor. But even at this price, for many, it’s very much worth it due to the unique feature set it comes with, so let’s take a closer look at it.

To begin with, this is a 35” 1800R curved ultrawide monitor with a 3440 x 1440 resolution and a 200Hz refresh rate. This is impressive by itself, but it also has VESA DisplayHDR1000 certification and 10-bit colors with Quantum dot technology. Add to this G-Sync Ultimate, and you see why this is a no-compromise solution.

The outside is pretty aggressive looking, too, with a space-saving stand and rather slim bezels. And when you factor in all the adjustability it comes with, you’ll quickly see why if your computer can handle it, you should be looking into it.

  • Integrated measurement device for fully automatic self-calibration.

When you’re doing creative work, you really need a color-accurate monitor. And in that scenario, few can do that as well as EIZO, which is why the CG2730-BK is a great pick. It is a 27” panel that’s geared towards designers and photo and video editors. And yes, like the Predator X35, it’s exorbitantly expensive.

The panel itself is a 27” 1440p panel with a 60Hz refresh rate. However, it comes with a wide color gamut and covers 99% of the AdobeRGB and 98% of the DCI-P3 color spaces. Add to this the integrated measurement device for auto-calibration, and this quickly becomes the go-to monitor if you value color accuracy.

BenQ is known for excellent midrange monitors for designers, and one of their more reasonably priced models is the SW2700PT. With a 27” panel and excellent color accuracy, it’s honestly pretty easy to see why.

You’re looking at an all-black monitor which honestly, doesn’t look like much. Thick bezels, not-too-adjustable stand, buttons on the stand itself rather than the monitor – not too impressive. But you also get a shade that allows you to isolate any external light from hitting the monitor, which is important for color-accurate work.

Then, there is the factory-calibrated panel that arrives with a factory report, as well as the ability for hardware calibration. That hotkey puck on the stand lets you switch between AdobeRGB, sRGB, and Black & White, all quickly and conveniently. If you don’t want to spend too much, but value your color accuracy, it’s a great choice.

The panel is a 27” 1440p one, with a 60Hz refresh rate. However, it covers sRGB, EBU, smpte-c, Rec. 709, and dicom-sim, and all with a Delta e of <2. This is very impressive at this price, and with 14-bit 3D color calibration, is one of the most accurate monitors within this price range.

On the outside, you get pretty slim bezels and a very adjustable stand, but you also get USB Type-C. This allows you to connect to your laptop and transfer both the video signal and power for charging. If you want versatility on a budget, this is it.

You may not need your monitor for gaming or color-accurate work, but why should that mean you don’t get a nice monitor for day-to-day use? HP’s 34f is a 34” ultrawide panel with a great all-round feature set, and it’s not even that expensive.

The panel itself comes with a 3440x1440p resolution, which makes it a great choice for multitasking. Or, even movie watching every once in a while, without black bars. It’s an IPS display, so the viewing angles are great, and the fact that this is a curved panel makes things even better. It does come with AMD FreeSync, so you could game on it, too.

The white design might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it does look stunning. And while the stand is rather compact, it offers very little adjustability, which is a slight downside. You should certainly consider it, though, as it’s overall a great choice.

Dell has always had some excellent monitors, and their Ultrasharp panels have received a lot of praise from all sides. The U2719DX is a great choice if you want a modern design with a great panel and a reasonable price, so let’s take a closer look at it.

First things first, this is a 27” 1440p panel with a 60Hz refresh rate. However, it has an IPS panel with 99% RGB coverage, which means that you get incredible colors regardless of which angle you’re looking at it from. It looks stunning.

The outside is just as impressive. The bezels are unbelievably slim and don’t even get us started on the stand. Height, tilt, swivel, rotation – it adjusts in pretty much every possible way. • 27” QHD (2560 x 1440) IPS Display
  • 3-Side Virtually Borderless Design
  • SRGB 99% Color Gamut

Sometimes you just want a good 1440p monitor you can use every day, and don’t really need too many features. However, if you want quality and a great panel, LG’s 27QN600-B is an excellent choice.

The panel is a 27” 1440p panel with a 60Hz refresh rate. It does come with AMD FreeSync, though, so you can use it for gaming at a lower refresh rate, which is nice. It also covers 99% of the sRGB color space, so it’s rather color accurate. Being IPS, the viewing angles are excellent, too.

On the outside, you’re looking at extremely slim bezels on three sides, with the bottom being slightly thicker. The stand takes up very little space, and it does get you a bit of adjustment. If you aren’t looking to spend too much on a new monitor, this could be a great choice.
